Burl is 5 weeks old today. We spend a lot of time nursing and cuddling right here in this spot.


He's been smiling a lot more. Aside from smiling in his sleep, his first smile was at La Leche League this past Monday, 4/21/08. Anything to do with breastfeeding makes him happy:)

After 36 hours of labor, our son Burl Augustus Ek was born Friday night, 3/21/08 spring equinox, at 10:31pm.

He weighed 9 lbs 10 oz. and was 22 1/2 inches long. He has thick black hair, beautiful clear skin, pink lips, long toes and fingers, and a very cute voice. He's easy going, healthy and a champion nurser.

A Burl is a type of wood, an offshoot of a tree, a redwood tree. Redwood trees have special meaning to both Alex and I

I'm In Labor

And have been for about 16 hours. Labor started yesterday, 3/20 around noon. All is well thus far...
