July 5th 2010

It's been a lovely day today. It's almost 6 pm, I'm working at my desk with the window open, feeling the cool breeze, burning a nice candle, and listening to a Theivery Corp station on Pandora. My nephew took Burl for the day. I miss that little guy when he's gone, but I sure do enjoy some time home by myself!

I'm working on a little something for my shop, which I'll update soon.

Wishing you all a wonderful week!

Tiny Treasures

Found while weeding the garden, tree moss and a hydrangea flower skeleton.

Salvaged

These fleeces were on their way to the landfill to be disposed of. A tragedy if you ask me. Now safe in my care, I'll be spinning and knitting this fluffy goodness into something special.

Peonies

I can't take credit for the beautiful peonies that grow in my garden, they were planted by our home's previous owners. They are big, lush, healthy, and smell amazing. Their growing season is entirely too short, I think.

Happy Summer Solstice, my friends!

Farmer's Market

I love Farmer's Market Season!!
I don't have much ready to eat from my poor, wet, cold garden; our weather closer to the coast has been so rainy this season. I've had to resort to my local Farmers Markets, where farmers bring in their produce grown more inland, where it's been warmer. These pictures are from the Snohomish Market.

On our menu for the next few days:
Peanut butter sandwiches with raw honey
Lots of raw sugar snap peas, his favorite
Homemade pasta with pesto and fresh tomatoes
And LOTS of strawberries!

From Our Pockets

Burl and I fill our pockets with sand, shells, and rocks when we come home from the beach. We have a big bowl where we collect shells, and play with them at home.
This collection is from our beach visit a few days ago.

When I was little, I absolutely loved seals and once found a piece of drift wood shaped just like a harbor seal. I kept it for many years, but over time it became lost. I still look for pieces of drift wood to replace it. Hopefully someday.

June 8th

The other evening, I was lucky enough to have a few hours to myself. This doesn't happen often, so I really, really treasure that time. In my hours alone, I went on a jog, stopped by the beach to catch the sunset, and went to the library, all while listening to evening jazz.

Did you know that June 8th is World Ocean Day? To celebrate the day, Burl and I picked up some garbage along one of our favorite beaches. Some of the trash we found in just a short 5 minute walk included soda cans, beer bottles, chip wrappers, styrofoam, a plastic bag, and a feminine hygiene product. Yes, very, very gross. I'm trying to make it a habit to carry a bag to put found garbage in while Burl and I are out and about.
